SAP EU AI Cloud: An important step for Europe’s digital sovereignty

With the EU AI Cloud, SAP is sending a signal for genuine digital sovereignty in Europe – technologically and strategically. For the first time, European companies are receiving a fully-fledged, sovereign AI alternative.

With the introduction of the EU AI Cloud, SAP is expanding its portfolio to include a complete full-stack offering for sovereign cloud and AI solutions.

This sends a signal to European companies: digital transformation and AI innovation no longer have to be accompanied by dependencies on non-European infrastructures. The topic of “technological sovereignty” is thus becoming more tangible – and is finally getting the enterprise relevance it deserves.

European framework for AI – designed for data sovereignty

In the future, SAP wants to enable companies to decide for themselves the level of sovereignty they need, and is now offering the SAP Sovereign Cloud on SAP Cloud Infrastructure (EU): an IaaS offering that runs entirely in SAP’s own European data centers – including guaranteed data storage in the EU.

There is also the SAP Commercial SaaS offering on selected hyperscalers: for customers who want to use global cloud services but need additional sovereignty functions. In addition, the Delos Cloud: a sovereign cloud option specifically for the public sector – tailored to particularly strict national requirements.

Together, this results in what is probably the most comprehensive modular system for sovereign cloud architectures that a major European provider can currently offer.

Cooperation with Cohere: AI agents “made for Europe”

Another highlight: SAP and the Canadian AI company Cohere are joining forces. With Cohere North, SAP will integrate agent-based AI capabilities into the Business Technology Platform (BTP) in the future. The goal: multimodal, trustworthy AI directly in European business processes – without data outflow to third countries.

Focus on Sovereign AI at TransformIT Europe

Europe needs sovereign AI – and solutions that can actually be used. The EU AI Cloud is a necessary component, but the crucial factor will be whether companies also use these offerings and integrate them into their critical systems. Digital sovereignty must not remain just a political buzzword – it must function operationally: scalable, interoperable and economical.

We cordially invite SAP, Cohere and all other infrastructure innovators and relevant providers of sovereign AI solutions – such as OVHcloud, Scaleway, T-Systems, STACKIT, Evroc and others – to present their technologies and use cases at the TransformIT Europe Expo & Conference in Brussels in May 2026.

How Europe can not only keep up but also lead the way in the global AI competition with sovereign cloud, trustworthy AI and a strong European infrastructure – that is the future we want to make visible in Brussels.
