More and more companies in Europe want to store their data as securely as possible and within the EU. To this end, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is planning the new European Sovereign Cloud – a European-operated cloud environment specifically designed for data protection, data sovereignty and compliance. As a launch partner, the American company Ingram Micro will accompany the launch of this offering.
Why is this Important?
Many companies – for example in the public sector, finance or healthcare – have to meet strict data protection requirements. The new solution is designed to enable these customers to use cloud services without data being processed outside Europe.
This should increase confidence in modern IT technologies and at the same time drive digital development forward.
Ingram Micro Brings Know-How and Access
Resellers and partners of Ingram Micro will in future have access to the new infrastructure and support from experienced cloud experts. The aim is to be able to use modern technologies such as AI, containers or microservices securely, even in sensitive data environments.
The Californian ITK wholesaler will support the handling, consulting and technical implementation via the Xvantage platform.
Sustainable Transformation
Cloud technologies can also contribute to energy-saving IT if they are operated efficiently. This topic also plays a central role in the sustainable transformation of companies. Modern data centers require fewer resources than classic on-premise structures – an important factor for green business strategies.
Discussion at the TransformIT Conference
The new TransformIT Europe (TIE) trade fair and conference, as a platform for sustainable transformation, deals precisely with these topics: digital sovereignty in Europe, Greentech and Green-Business models.
At TIE 2026 in Brussels, companies such as Ingram Micro and market leaders from Europe and the world will explicitly come together to exchange ideas in order to help shape and showcase innovative solutions for sovereign cloud and sustainable digitization.
Major Challenges Remain – Critical Assessment
The European Sovereign Cloud is an important step towards greater data sovereignty. Nevertheless, it remains crucial:
- How independently will the cloud actually be operated technically and organizationally?
- Who ultimately has control over system management and encryption keys?
The implementation and transparency of the architecture will show how sovereign the solution ultimately is.
