Prof. Dr. Harald Wehnes

Professor of Computer Science

Institute of Computer Science, University of Würzburg

topic

Prof. Dr. Harald Wehnes addresses one of Europe’s most pressing issues in his keynote: digital sovereignty.
The past months have made it abundantly clear: Digital sovereignty has never been more crucial than it is today. The growing dependency on Big Tech poses enormous risks for economy and politics – up to the threat of targeted blackmail.

Prof. Dr. Harald Wehnes warns of an impending “digital colonization” and outlines how Europe can act independently, self-determined, and securely in the digital space. At the same time, he unmasks the narratives Big Tech uses to cement its dominance.
His proposed solutions range from building European alternatives to expanding the use of open source and making targeted investments in local infrastructure.
