Clean Food Group (CFG), a UK-based FoodTech pioneer specializing in sustainable, fermentation-derived oils and fats, has acquired the facilities of the insolvent company Algal Omega 3 Ltd. Through this acquisition, CFG secures a production capacity of one million liters, making it the world’s largest producer of fermentation-based oils and fats derived from food waste.

The 12-hectare facility at the Knowsley Biotech Park in Liverpool includes extensive research and development infrastructure and offers significant expansion potential.
CFG has already successfully produced two tons of oil there on an industrial scale — clear proof of the scalability of its proprietary CLEAN OilCell technology platform, which does not require costly new construction.
No Genetic Engineering, No Palm Plantations, No Deforestation
By using fermentation with natural yeast strains, CFG creates environmentally friendly alternatives to palm and soybean oil, reduces waste, and conserves valuable agricultural land.
With this acquisition, CFG is now capable of producing microbial oils at large scale and offering them at competitive prices — not only for the food industry, but also for the cosmetics and pet food sectors.
Biologically Produced Oil: Converting Food Waste with Yeasts
Just last week, the company received regulatory approval for its product CLEAN Oil 25 as a cosmetic ingredient in the UK, Europe, and the United States.
Bill Thurston has been appointed as the new managing director of the production site. With decades of experience in the oils and fats industry, he will lead the site’s development into a global hub for sustainable alternatives to tropical oils.
Commercialization Path Rapidly Accelerated
CFG CEO Alex Neves stated: “With this acquisition, we have significantly accelerated our path to commercialization — and achieved it without the traditional, capital-intensive construction of new facilities.”
By using food waste as a raw material, Clean Food Group contributes to a circular, deforestation-free, and resilient oil production model — an approach that is gaining strong relevance in European sustainability forums such as TransformIT Europe 2026.
